Ignite Magazine is an online platform dedicated to empowering women by providing a space for both male and female students and professionals to express themselves and showcase their writing abilities on a variety of women-related topics. These subjects include: news, technology, health, love, workforce, life after university, DIYs, voices, style and travel. In conjunction with Carleton University Women in Business, Ignite offers an outlet of expression to those who believe in highlighting the discrepancies present in women’s rights, equality and social justice. Our Magazine is dedicated to inclusivity and diversity by encouraging students and professionals of all genders, backgrounds, disciplines and professions to send in submissions in a variety of mediums, including articles, blogs, vlogs and videos. Our aim is to reach a national audience in order to raise awareness on gender inequalities within the workplace in Canada.
Our editorial board is comprised of one Editor-in-Chief, and three editors from across the country. Our Editor-in-Chief, Véronique Poulin, is a fourth year law and legal studies student at Carleton University. She is a dedicated student, committed to academic excellence, campus involvement and leadership initiatives. She currently holds the position of Director of Community and Culture at the Student Experience Office, Lead Peer Helper at the International Student Services Office, and is participating in the One HEALtH Global Challenge. Véronique is pursuing a career in health law, focusing on global health policies and initiatives.
Our first editor, Kirthan Sasitharan is a journalist, researcher, and graduate student at the University of British Columbia. Before entering the world of Journalism, she graduated from the University of Windsor with Double Honours in Dramatic Art and English Literature. She decided to make journalism her outlet so she may use this medium to convey and write truth. She currently writes for the The Thunderbird, UBC’s School of Journalism's Online News Source and Ignite Magazine.
Our second editor, Akkila Thirukesan, is a fourth-year student majoring in both law and human rights, with a concentration in policy and government at Carleton University. She hopes to use her voice as a platform to advocate for gender equity and women empowerment in top-level positions.
Our third editor, Andrea Scanzano Wahba is a first-year Master’s student at McGill University, studying Information Studies. She graduated from McGill University with a double-major in English Literature and History. She is passionate about not only the written word, but also about women’s rights. These, combined with her interest in student life, and her friendship with various members of the CUWIB community, resulted in her involvement with Ignite Magazine, a platform where she believe we can all strive to inspire others.
We accept submissions on a continuous basis, and advertise authors’ work through our social media outlets and online platform. Those interested in submitting submissions may do so at email@example.com.
